SEM programme for children and families

The Slovene Ethnographic Museum is a meeting point where the past and present, Slovenian and world cultural heritage intertwine.

Through the countless small stories of the objects on display, heritage is presented to the youngest visitors in a way that allows them to see, experience and learn from it. The variety and creativity of programmes in the Museum's exhibitions are the reason why young children like to visit again and again. This is how we grow together and learn for our common future.

AT THE SEM, CHILDREN AND FAMILIES CAN FIND SOMETHING FOR THEMSELVES EVERY DAY:

Etnoalphabet, an interactive research exhibition for children
A labyrinth that takes us from A to Z into the world of useful objects from the past. We get to know them through discovery, exploration, creation and play. For example, under the letter F there is a fireplace where we can 'warm up' and listen to a folk tale, and at the letter Q for quern, a simple hand mill, we can mill grain.

Workshop with the Little Master
The Little Master organises various activities to help visitors experience heritage first hand. His workshop is a place where children and their parents can learn different skills, especially those related to manual skills. Free admission!

Films by the Little Master
Twelve short films present twelve craftsmen and craftswomen who the Little Master has visited in their workshops. You can watch them online!

Let's make the world's longest scarf together!
The world's longest scarf was woven in Cambodia and measures 1,149.8 m. SEM's scarf has been woven by visitors using cotton thread, and currently measures 16m. Can we work together and weave the world's longest scarf? Find a real loom in the Little Master's workshop, sit down and weave a piece of the scarf yourself… Free admission!

Children's games at the exhibition Sacred Horses – Heavenly Riders
We invite you to a horse race for two to four players in game called With horses around Slovenia, and to put together your own horse on the magnetic board My horsey has …

Find the objects in the exhibition, colour them in and link them with a paperclip to make a guide.
