Tolmin frika: From an exclusively work dish to a symbol of everything that is Tolmin

In the last 50 years, the role of Tolmin frika, a dish consisting of potatoes and cheese fried in a pan, has been greatly transformed, for what used to be an exclusively workday is becoming a recognised symbol of everything that is Tolmin. The dish itself appears as a local culinary speciality at public tourist and cultural events and in restaurants. But at the same time, the notion of frika is present in the language, folklore tradition and artistic creativity of different generations. These private, even intimate forms of social life and expression lead us to believe that the identity perception of this dish has become rooted even more deeply in the consciousness of local people.
