Orientatioris towards Venus' extremes ki pre-Hispanic Mesoamerican architecture
The paper presents the orientations to Venus extremes discovered so far in pre-Hispanic Mesoamerican architecture. Certain characteristics of the apparent motion of the planet Venus, so far unnoticed, are described and shown to be relevant in archaeoastronomical research (asymmetry of the morning star vs. evening star extremes and their seasonally-fixed occurrences). It is argued that all the Venus alignments known so far refer to the evening star and that they can be accounted for by the conceptual relationship of Venus with rain, maize and fertility in Mesoamerican world view.
