The article presents a chronology of initiatives related to the establishment of openair museums in Slovenia and links them to the persisting demands of the ethnological discipline for a central ethnological museum in premises of its own. The author introduces us to the project "Network of Open-Air Museums in Slovenia", arguing that the expert and operational running of open-air museums should he directed try the Slovene Ethnographic Museum.
