Researching the persecution of the Carinthian Slovenes
The article explores field work as a recurring, deeply emotional experience for the narrator as well as the researcher. The events in the field and the people who tell their life stories change the researcher’s perception of a place and its people. Through life stories researchers learn about the way of living and thinking of people and their feelings in the past. A good understanding of people’s emotions and feelings provides a better understanding of a society, because often only emotions lead us to understanding a situation. Findings acquired in the field can help us to understand our own life, they can be an inspiration as well as an experience.
