The Non-European collections in the time of the non-aligned movement: alternative conceptions of the world

Zunajevropske zbirke v obdobju neuvrščenosti: Alternativna zamišljanja sveta

The exhibition Intertwined Worlds: The Non European Collections in the Time of the Non-Aligned Movement (9 May-9 September 2024) shed light on but a fraction of SEM's history, which was marked by increased contacts and exchanges between Slovenia and the countries of the Global South. Yugoslavia's engagement in the Non-Aligned Movement contributed not only to increased acquisitions for museum collections, but also to numerous exhibitions that came to the museum from the developing countries, and professional exchanges between members of the movement. The exhibition elucidated different perceptions and views of non-European countries and people that were communicated to museumgoers through exhibitions at the time, as well as the practice of three curators who endeavoured to advance scientific and museum research into the African continent.
