„Make me a bunch of flowers, and you'll be mine forever" - a lad promises his girl in a Porabje folk song. If the girl did make the bunch and if the lad kept his promise, they were married at Shrovetide. The
female relatives of both made the bunches for the wedding guests. Making paper flowers was characteristic of folk art in the Slovene
villages in the environs of Monaster (Hung.: Szentgothard ) up to the 1970s.
