The Jews in Ljubljana from the 13th to the 19th century

Basing on available sources and literature the author deals with the initial settling of the Jewish community in Ljubljana and its social life within the framework of the medieval religious and social systems. The article reveals the role of the synagogue as the centre of a certain way of living which was characteristic of the Jewish population; it also describes the contacts between the citizens and the Jews and elaborates on the reasons for the expulsion of the Jews in the early 15th century.
