On the burgeoisie as a historical, ethnological and, above all, psychological concept
The essence of the discussion is devoted to defining the bourgeoisie, to the differences between towns and villages, town and country people, and especially to the questions what "bourgeoisie" stands for in terms of psychology, and which special features differentiate it from all other social strata. This latter issue is dealt with in the chapter on the parallels between psychological individuation and the bourgeoisie, basing on the authors' thesis that the bourgeoisie is the only real form of individuation ever put to the test.
