Painted beehive panel

Painted beehive panels are an original ingredient of Slovene cultural heritage and a type of folk art that flourished particularly in the 19th century.

The panels feature more than 600 motifs, both of a religious nature and depicting everyday life. An example is the scene at a water mill showing two women and a man with a stick, lying on the edge of the mill race, who is being held by a girl. Most probably this shows an event from real life, for accidents at mill races were very common.
