ENTRANCE TO THE [BOOK] CIRCLE

Would you like to step into other times and spaces at the Slovene Ethnographic Museum?

Step through the ENTRANCE TO THE [BOOK] CIRCLE.

You will “step into” the times and spaces of past exhibitions at the Slovene Ethnographic Museum. Exhibitions that attracted visitors to other times and spaces. And if you wish so, you can take a part of those times and spaces with you. Leaf through a publication, read a page or two, perhaps even three…Buy a  catalogue or two…Take whatever you like or is unknown to you, whatever seems exciting or inspiring…

You can choose from the catalogues of exhibitions which for over 70 years attracted visitors to our museum in Prešernova Street, in a building shared by several national museums. And there are also modest catalogues of exhibitions that delighted visitors of the splendid premises of the former and present Diocesan Mansion in Goričane near Medvode; for over 30 years the mansion indeed housed our non-European collections. We are proud to offer you catalogues of the first exhibitions that attracted visitors to the partly renovated premises of the present museum at the turn of the century.  The transformation of a military barracks into a modern museum was celebrated in 1997 with an exhibition on birth and early childhood in Slovenia, with the symbolic title Entrance to the Circle.

In addition to catalogues, the SEM publishes the museum journal Etnolog, which was called Slovenski etnograf for some time. This year we celebrate the 90th anniversary of the journal's publication. May reading its volumes take you to those long gone times and spaces at our museum and, wider, into the world of (modern) ethnology and its related disciplines.

We wish you a safe journey and pleasant (summer) reading!
