This experimental exhibition is part of the SWICH project activities, co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union.

Experimental exhibition »Africa and Slovenia. A web of people and objects« is an attractive, visual presentation of both the Slovene collectors of the African collections in the care of the museum as well as the participation of African Slovenes. Transnational identities of African Slovenes we get to know by watching the video narrations about their personal objects, and through brief texts on their personal experiences and views of themes like: their family connections with their native countries, the first contacts with Yugoslavia, education, organisations of the Africans, professional careers, identity, cultural exchange, and connections with their homeland.

The binding element of the two parts of the exhibition is the Non-Aligned Movement (70ies and 80ies of the 20th century), which in multifaceted ways brought together politicaly non-aligned countries and other formerly colonized countries. Slovene experts took their knowledge and skills to (among others) Africa, and some of them acquired collections that are in the care of the Slovene Ethnographic Museum today. Collectors, presented at the exhibition are Boris Kuhar, Anton Petkovšek, Andrej Jerovšek, Jože Ham, Zdenka Žebre, and spouses Željko and Nevenka Marija Jeglič. On the other hand are the (then) young people from member states of the movement, who were granted scholarships to study in Slovenia, at the time one of the six republics of the Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia. Some of them, who came (among others) from African countries, remained in Slovenia and created families here. They are all connected with their native countries in one or another way, and as citizens of Slovenia contribute to Slovene society through their creative activities. African Slovenes who participated at the exhibition are Peter Bossman, Joseph Rakotorahalahy, Richard Sendi, Robert Yebuah and Max Zimani.
