The Cursed Land of Lustful Women

Performance by Indian creator Kanika Gupta

The performance will take place on Sunday, 15 August, Tuesday, 17 August and Thursday, 19 August 2021 at 20.15.

We will meet in front of the Slovene Ethnographic Museum, Metelkova 2, Ljubljana, at 20.15, and walk together to the location of the performance (two minutes stroll). It will start at 20.30 and last for 30 minutes.

Art historian Kanika Gupta, activist in residence at the SEM, explores ancient Indian art and mythology, and connects them to the current environmental challenges. Ancient Indian tales inspire her with breathtaking descriptions of the beauty and splendour of Indian forests and nature. In her performance, Kanika narrates about the Indian tree deity – Yakshi, that was once worshipped, and raises awareness of the processes of subjugating the nature, and consequences of its destruction.

Performance will be held in English with the Slovene translation.
